Modern medicine is stuck in the era of the Smokestack Economy. Medicine has always been a knowledge-based service industry, but in the smokestack era that knowledge was kept secret within cloistered halls.
It has also been a matter of heresy to question the gods of medicine!

In times past, all it took for a patient to die was for the white coat to tell him: You have only 60 days to live! The days of that god are gone! But, many doctors still operate in that smokestack world -- they haven't got the message yet, just as the liberal elitists haven't gotten the message of the November 1994 election, or the downfall of Clinton! |
Today, although many doctors don't accept it, information about health issues has gone mainstream. More importantly, the abject failure and decades-long promotion of false medical "science"is ALSO being exposed to public examination in this Information Age.
In times past the doctors, in their cloistered halls, knew that they had a failing science, based on drugs that treated symptoms, never causes. They could admit their shortcomings only to one another, out of sight of their patients or the public. Many will go to their graves believing these myself!
That is changing!
Speaker of the House Of Representatives, Newt Gingrich, is now one of the most powerful persons in America. He may not be high in the popularity polls, but he wields vast power within the Government. In a recent interview he acknowledge Alvin Toffler, author of the Third Wave, as one of HIS opinion leaders. [source]
Mr. Gingrich wrote a Foreword to Toffler's must recent Book, War & Anti-War in the 21st Century. We are in that war now! It is a war based on information resources.
Briefly, the concept of these books is that the world is currently going through a momentous change. Thousands of years ago man roamed the land, looking for food. The First Wave was when he settled down and became a farmer. Obviously he needed many different skill and institutions to live and farm safely in one place compared with the life of a nomad.
That First Wave lasted for thousands of years.

Then, only a few hundred years ago we entered the Second Wave, the era of cities and factories. The Second Wave is often referred to as the Age of the Smokestack Economy -- when virtually all "jobs" were in a factory, turning out things like cars and refrigerators. A college education was NOT necessary to get a job in those days. What was necessary, as labor unions distressed management, was "getting along" and adopting to your circumstances -- the educational message of today's schools -- and a disaster for freedom! |
For some many years we have been into the Third Wave -- the information age. Actually it was in 1950 when, for the first time, over 50% of all American jobs were in the service sector, rather than the manufacturing segment of the economy.
Part of the smokestack myth is that the "service industry" is all fast food, low wage stuff! But, a recent study of service jobs in the entertainment-0rich area of Los Angeles showed the average annual income in the service industry to be above $40,000.
Today a good education IS vital, but the central planning school psychologists from the Second Wave have made sure that our elementary and high schools turn out millions of "graduates" who cannot read or figure! The irony is that they have not either learned to "get along." The educational system is stuck in The Second Wave, as are many other institutions in our society. |

These kids MIGHT be good fodder for Second Wave factories, but they are ill-equipped for this information age.

The average wage of non-college educated male workers, according to President Clinton himself, has declined 12% over the past ten years. President Clinton called this "the most troubling trend in American life!" [source]
For those who cannot or will not move into the Information Age, the next few decades are going to be very difficult times. For doctors who do not shift viewpoints, practices will shrivel! But, those who see the possibilities now, and who get fully involved, can prosper greatly.
Health Care In The
Third Wave
I don't think, in the Third Wave, it should be called "medical care," but rather "health care." Interestingly it will become the personal and individual responsibility of each American to learn the knowledge which has been hidden by those who had more to profit from continued sickness than wellness! Even the word -- wellness -- is not defined in today's medical schools!
Why should insurance pay for medical care for liver damage or lung cancer for a person who won't stop drinking or smoking! That person needs to pay for his own stupidity -- society too long has been paying for professional victims!
Modern doctors study disease, not health -- such practitioners will be left behind as the Third Wave advances.
That's the context of this Viewpoint. I think of traditional medicine as having developed WITHIN that Second Wave; its inadequacies are similar to all the people and organizations which are stuck with Second Wave concepts when the Third Wave is fast taking over.
During the First wave health care was almost all of the self-help variety. Usually it was grandma, the Bible, and the family herb garden which were the only sources of health technology.
The predominant medical philosophy at the beginning of the industrial age was homeopathy -- an art and science of causing effects in the body which were the SAME as the symptom being treated. [source]
If the person had a fever, then homeopathy would give that person an extremely tiny dose of some substance which, in larger doses, would cause a fever in a healthy person.
The general concept was that the very tiny dose would NOT be overwhelming to the body, but would stimulate the body's own, natural healing mechanisms. [source]
The Third Wave will also recognize the proper relationship between mental and physical treatment and delete psychiatry from any role in health care. Psychiatry and psychology were very popular in the Second Wave -- they helped people adopt to their circumstances.
In the Third Wave people will be changing their environment to serve people, hot the reverse. The biggest problem with environmental political issues, today, is not that they are so expensive and impractical, but that our economy has not yet grown into the potential we have from the information age.
I think homeopathy was a much more valid science than its opposite, allopathy, (see definitions for each of these, below) but the Third Wave will leave both behind, and emphasize biochemistry and nutrition; we are entering the era of a true science of health. Several hundred years ago allopathy advocated the use of mercury and arsenic as the major drugs of choice. Those drugs truly fit the definition of allopathy. [source]

We are now in the information age -- look at the importance of computers and knowledge -- it is interesting that health care has ALWAYS been a knowledge-based activity. Thus, health care entered into its own information age with the first medicine man, or the first grandma! The nature of this information-based service changed as it moved from the First Wave to the Second Wave. During the First Wave, the knowledge was available to any who were willing to observe -- it was insight based on anecdotal data, now dismissed by the Second Wave of "science." |
The medical service industries which were a part of the Smokestack Economy took on the ideas of second hand sources of data, complexity, licensing, patents and secrets.
Medical science during the Second Wave emphasized drugs which could be patented, and ridiculed grandma's simplicities.
Drugs were actually a forerunner of something mostly new in the third Wave. Drugs imbed a large quantity of information (even if it is false data) into a pill. The chemical ingredient cost of the pill might be a thousandth of a penny, but the research component of that one pill might be ten cents while it sells for $5 per pill. The drug company also has to recover the research costs for the pill that never made it to market!
This is an example of a Third Wave product -- where a great deal of information-based value is embedded into the product itself. (This, incidentally, why the product Microhydrin is so fascinating -- and why a whole new "class" of substances, called "nutriseuticals" is so exciting. These products get the patent protection which allows them to spend the money on research and embed these research costs into the chemical pill. Without this patent protection we would continue to be at the mercy of promotional experts each telling us that this brand of vitamin C is better than that brand!) [source]
The drug companies were never oriented toward "health" but only toward "disease,"so they depended on profit to measure their success -- not wellness! Traditional drugs have been researched with profits rather than cures as the motive while consumer protection by the FDA was missing.
The ONLY solution for health care consumers, in the decades to come, is to LEARN about health care, themselves, and to find honest sources for help. We will need, also, new mechanisms for rewarding those who bring true knowledge to the public.
A very critical factor in the Second Wave medical corruption was the policy to get rid of ANY remedy which could not be patent-protected. Then, the doctors got laws passed making alternative remedies illegal!
If research showed that the bark of a tree from South America could cure cancer, then the drug companies would figure out what were the so called "active ingredient" in that natural product, and make that natural ingredient synthetically.
The new, synthetic product, of course, could be patented, and give the drug company a monopoly on the drug for many years.
The natural form could not be patented; it had to be suppressed. This explains the attacks on vitamins.
There IS a South American tree, whose bark offers remarkable promise for cancer patients, AND there are dozens of scientific studies of the so-called active ingredients in that bark. [source]
The research with these ingredients from the bark show that they "reduce tumors in mice." But, the synthetic versions have some toxic side effects, while the bark, with all the components in their natural balance, has no such toxicity. [source]
So, the drug companies supported the research ONLY until they discovered that whatever they could produce that would be patentable was not safe! The fact that they had discovered that the natural substance was safe AND effective was never in their set of goals. They abandoned research on the natural remedy and their puppet, the FDA, simply calls the natural product quackery. A good friend of mine spent two years in Federal Prison because he was curing cancer with "quack substances."
THIS is the Second Wave Medical thinking -- keep anything natural off the market -- get government power to force doctors to use the synthetic drugs.
Notice that the Third Wave, with true reliance on knowledge, forsakes drugs just because they are not effective, but does NOT forsake patent protection. A truly effective nutritional substance which can be patented competes against natural vitamins, not against drugs. Of course it would "win" when compared to medical drugs, also, but since the harm of drugs is becoming more and more known, that is a no-brainer. The world of biochemistry must compete with honest products such as vitamins rather than medical drugs. But, the world of biochemistry, a perfect example of Third Wave Technology, is also the world in which invention and patents are possible, whereas the world of vitamins is not such a world. In the world of vitamins you cannot patent any formula of vitamins, so anyone can copy it, and so there is no long term prosperity for the natural vitamin industry. Those commercial firms which hitch their health services to biochemistry will prosper greatly.
The Third Wave ushers in the age of information and now millions of people have computers, many of them connected with the same research resources which, 30 years ago, only a small number of scientists had access to.
I, myself, have searched and found hundreds of scientific articles and studies about this South American tree, and other subjects I write about. On my web site I have many hundreds of scientific studies on different subjects! Even when I was in this business 15 years ago it was a marvel for me to visit a library and tediously make a photo-copy of some journal article on some substance. Today I can view hundreds of such studies in minutes!

Now, let me recount a personal story.
Terminal?
A friend of mine was a world-famous international attorney, living in Houston, Texas. He had led an extremely active life and had mostly retired when he went into a hospital with stomach problems.
He and I talked as much as three times each week, and he thought so little of this simple visit to the hospital that he never thought to tell me he was going in for this "checkup." But, when I didn't here from him for a few days, I called his office and his Secretary assumed that I knew he was STILL in the hospital, and talked about it. She then begged me to not tell him that I learned about his situation from her -- since he had asked her to not tell anyone. So, I called to the hospital and gradually began to get the whole story. |

After the doctors had seen him about his "stomach problems," they did tests and came to this terrible diagnosis.
They told him (before I ever even heard he was in the hospital): "You have cancer of the pancreas. it is fatal in more than 99% of all cases diagnosed, and you have not more than 60 days to live. Neither surgery, chemotherapy nor radiation will do you any good. there is nothing for you to do beyond going home to get your affairs in order."
How would you like to get such a message?
Unfortunately, many thousands of Americans get this exact message every year.
In these United States there are about 500,000 people who die of cancer every year.
Of these many thousands of cancer deaths, pancreatic cancer kills about 50,000 every year.
One traditional source of information says:
"Pancreatic surgery is almost never curative, but when a tumor is apparently well-localized may offer the only chance for cure, however remote. it is a radical procedure and has its own risks and side effects. Surgery can also provide temporary relief of liver or intestinal blockage, and improvement in the pain if a mechanical cause is present.
"Various types of radiation therapy have been investigated, and some temporary improvements have been noted. Unfortunately, uninvolved organs must necessarily receive high doses as well, and side effects may be severe, involving the stomach and spinal cord among other organs. Thus the role of radiation is currently quite limited.
Chemotherapy can provide temporary improvement in about 20% of treated patients, and may prolong survival slightly at the expense of side-effects.
As may be deduced from the above, the prognosis of this disease is grim with or without treatment. Within one year of the diagnosis, 90% of patients are dead. The five year cure rate is probably around 5%. Little hope for improvement in these figures can be expected until research shows more about the causes and means of early detection for this most dismal cancer. [source]
95% Death Rate
I'm going to refer to my attorney friend as Judge O. he had served as a judge during part of his career. he also served in the White House during the term of many Presidents. he and I first met when we were both working in the Kennedy White House.
But, his thousands of friends could do nothing for him now. Nor could the doctors!
He, at the prime of his life, ready to continue to carry on relationships with the many friends he had from serving in the White House during several different administrations, had nothing now to look forward to than 60 days of increasing misery.
When I found out that he was in the hospital, he had already gone through surgery.
That's an interesting story too.
After he got the original diagnosis, and well before I learned that he was even in the hospital, his son got involved. He had one son who was a surgeon, specializing in stomach and intestinal surgery. This son was certainly, himself, qualified to have an expert opinion on the operability of a pancreatic cancer situation.
The Judge was being treated in a large hospital where a group of more than 10 doctors all agreed that surgery would be of no value to Judge O. He was to be sent home to die.
At that point his son came onto the scene, argued with a few of the doctors that he, the son, needed to be listened to. The son recommended surgery -- to remove whatever part of the pancreas was found to be cancerous.
The hospital finally agreed. The son was "in attendance," but did not perform the surgery.
Judge O was back in his room, after surgery, recovering, when I called his room. Now, I had no idea of what was going on, but I called. He was very groggy when he talked to me, but told me the story.
Prior to my calling I knew he had been "admitted" to the hospital, but not why. I then ordered flowers to be delivered to his room. They got there while he was in surgery and it was MY gift of flowers which he first saw when he woke up after surgery.
When he woke mine were the only flowers there -- because he had not wanted anyone to know where he was.
He also told me that he was informed that the surgery notwithstanding, he was still expected to die within 60 days. Now he would have to spend some amount of those 60 days in the hospital recovering from a very serious surgery. He told me, also, that the surgeons had confirmed that the cancer was very far advanced and that they did not think they were able to remove it all! That surgery is called the "Whipple." [source]
Prior to this time Judge O had been taking my Life Glow, but I had never had occasion to recommend Taheebo Life Tea to him. Even in that first phone call, when he told me that he was going to die!, I disagreed with him.
"Judge," said I, "you have too much to live for and I don't accept such opinions from those who are trained only in death and disease!" Said I, "I think you can take our Taheebo Life Tea" and overcome this problem!"
He trusted and loved me, but he still expected to die. He was willing, however, to try anything!
I told him to take massive doses of this concentrate from a South American Tree Bark, and he did. He started feeling better.
After about 30 days back home, he went to the hospital. They had dismissed him and didn't expect to ever return.
When they saw him they began to wonder if the diagnosis was wrong. Their first examination showed that he had NOT gotten worse, but that his "signs" were improved.
They told that he was still going to die, but that since he was "better," they might as well give him some chemotherapy.
He asked me about it!
I told him to get the chemotherapy only if he really wanted to die!
He then worried that if the hospital prescribed chemotherapy (it was a VA hospital) and he refused, they might not pay his surgery bills! So, on his own, he figured out how to handle this.
He drafted a letter to be signed by the head chemotherapy doctor -- and took it for an appointment. He talked to the doctor. "Yes," said the doctor, "you should have chemotherapy."
Judge O gave him this statement to read and sign. It simply said, as to be signed by the doctor, that the chemotherapy would not harm his health, and would give him an increased chance to become healthy! The doctor refused to sign such a statement, and withdrew his prescription for chemotherapy.
You can be sure that his "health insurance" would never pay for the Taheebo capsules, yet it was those capsules which saved his life. You can be sure that his "health insurance" would have paid for chemotherapy and had he taken that he would have died -- murdered by the ignorant who toil within the Second Wave of medicine.
Thus saved from the ravages of the Second Wave Medical Establishment, Judge O went on to a complete recovery. He eventually was declared by that same hospital to be completely free of cancer!
He lived five more years until he finally did die from a heart problem which was aggravated by a diet he could never change! Judge O finally became good friends with ONE of the many doctors who had treated him. This doctor quietly acknowledged that the "herb" had saved the Judge's life. The Doctor also told Judge O that he could never say that to anyone else except Judge O -- or he would lose his position in the hospital. But, Judge O was told by the White Coats that he was going to die, and Karl Loren told him that was not so! |
